Backup of volume C: has failed. The operation failed due to a device error encountered with either the source or the destination. If the source or destination volume is on a disk, run CHKDSK /R on the source or destination volume, and then retry the operation.
Could anyone help me to fix this issue.
Thanks,

Windows Server Backup - Reporting Failed, But creates a backup file
Currently have a Server running 2008 R2. Also runs Hyper-V with 3 VMs. VM's are located on the D drive, so I gave up trying to back these up at the same time as the C, since it was timing out.
I have a daily backup setup - just VSS Full Backup the Local Disk (C:), no bare metal recovery or system state. This is backing up to a shared network drive on a different server.
Every day the backup status comes back as failed. However when I go to the destination that the backup should be going to, I'm seeing a VHD file that is 280GB, which is the expected size to see.
The error reported in Windows Server Backup is "One of the backup files could not be created. Detailed error: the parameter is incorrect"
WSB is horrible at providing any helpful error reports on what the real problem is.
Anyone have an idea why it's creating a large backup file, but reporting as failed with this error?
System State Backup Failed error code "2155347997"

which is mention below.
also try to search hotfix support update but cant take it

Volume shadow copy exclusions
Hello,
I'm contacting you because i'm facing an issue of some files that are filtred trought VSS (.EXE files), and i do not want them to be filtred
is their any tool or command that let me include them again to backup
To determine wich files were exluded from my Backup(I'm using Netbackup solution)
I have run
DISKSHADOW> list writers detailed
i found as exemple this exe file: d:\sql_data\mssql\binn, Fichier = sqlservr.exe wich is backed up in the system state
before writing to you here, i Have checked at the Veritas Forum and the say:
The determination about which files and folder are classified into Shadow Copy Components happens outside of NetBackup. If you feel a file or folder should or should not be filtered into Shadow Copy Components, you need to engage Microsoft to discuss options for modifying the file list.

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error DeviceIoControl hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied
Hello Guys,
Recently I've noticed an failing DPM job in SC DPM 2012 R2. In Event Viewer | Application I found the following error related to VSS
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error DeviceIoControl(\\?\Volume{e6ac2b07-7600-11e3-9414-00155d021409} - 0000000000000164,0x0053c06c,000000BAC9E6A780,0,000000BAC9E69770,4096,[0]). hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.
.
Operation:
Query diff area for this volume
Context:
Volume Name: \\?\Volume{e6ac2b07-7600-11e3-9414-00155d021409}\
I mounted the volume and run chkdsk /f /r then retried backup job and error persist.
vssadmin list shadowstorage gives
Error: The shadow copy provider had an error. Please see the system and
application event logs for more information.
vssadmin list writers gives
State: [1] Stable
Last error: No error
for all writers.
Please advise

Disk Duplicator question
Hello,
I have 2 windows servers 2008 Std R2 and they are domain controllers. These were put together long time ago and obviously the HD configuration was thought about carefully. I have inherited this configuration. In each server (server1 and server2) there is only one HD.
To mitigate the eventuality of a disk crash, I am thinking of duplicating the HD in both of these servers. I bought Star Tech product: eSATA/USB 3.0 Hard Drive Duplicator Dock- Standalone HDD Cloner with SATA 6 Gbps for fast-speed duplication. Model number:Product ID: SDOCK2U33RE.
So the idea is if the HD in server1 crashes, I should be able to put in the duplicated copy and carry on. I understand that this is not a recommended configuration and I should really be having mirrored HD (RAID-1), but let us for the time being assume that is not possible at this time and just analyze the HD duplication method as the current possibility.
Could someone comment please?

Concurrent or backup server - advice needed
Hello,
We have a small business and want to implement a backup server. We have identical hardware on the secondary
server. So there is the primary server. There is a second machine which is to become the main server should something
happen to it.
First of all, I would like to make an identical copy of the OS or at least the settings from the first server. I realize that both cannot be the same and connected online at the same time. There would be IP and machine name conflicts.
Second, I want to implement a system where this secondary backup server is kept up to date ideally in real time, or at worse case, updating it at a particular time each day, say 8:00pm. These servers are in 2 separate physical locations in a building.
Please give me some options on how I would do accomplish these tasks.
Thanks so much.

How to delete old backups on Windows 2012 Server Backup
Hi there
We have 2 Windows Server 2012 physical machine and these machine has cross synchronization in Hyper-V and also each machine has USB dedicated backup device attached to this machine. On the USB dedicated backup device, we ran a Windows Server Backup (Local backup) run once a day and we only select the VMs and Host Component for backing up and use an option for "Backup to harddisk that is dedicated for backups (recommended).
Now we have a warning saying that the space for USB backup device is only 5% left and in this device we have 273 copies of backups (capacity 1863 GB and used space 1767 GB), so my question are:
1. Does this Windows backup will overwrite the old one by any chance automatically? Or it will throw an error if it's full?
2. If it's throwing an error, how do we deleted the old backups?
We prefer to have first option recycling/deleting the old one automatically. Option (2), we can't really see the contain of the disk .. not sure how we are going to delete old backups. Alternative, we are thinking to supply another brand new USB disk ... is that the best option?
Waiting for your feedback.
Thanks

Windows 2008R2 System State backup problem
Windows Server 2008 R2 Backup - Slow backup to iSCSI Target on a NAS
Looks like the backup job duration is the same when running backup for the first time and every subsequent time. I thought Win2008R2 does incremental backup when destination is a iSCSI target. I am backing up a Hyper-V server with bunch of VMs, and the backup duration is about 6 hours to a iSCSI target running on a Gigabit connection and this makes me think that there is no incremental backup being done.
Someone please help me understand why this is happening.
Thanks,
Shuja
Attempting to restore from a backup 2012R2 Essentials
I have a 2012R2 Essentials machine I used to replace our 2008R2 Home Server some years ago. I attempted to install an A/V and it crashed and locked everything up. (Thanks Symantec) I've tried every which way I know to restore and learned a lot about wbadmin. (as a side note, deduplication can't be read on a windows 10 machine. You must have another server with the feature turned on. Otherwise, prepare for the long wait while the drive "rehydrates" start dedupjob...I digress)
At the moment, I've copied the HDD to a vhd as to not loose the original. I've installed a fresh copy of the essentials server and I'm attempting to restore. I see 5+ copies in Windows Server Backup. I select the date and time, the two volumes I want restored and the location on the exactly sized vhd to put them. When I hit restore I get "Windows Backup cannot find a shadow copy of the backup set on the storage location."
The backup drive was new, never touched when I began using it for backups. It has sat on the server for at least a year now with no changes. When attempting to bare metal restore, the backups can't be found. Wbadmin can't find the versions until I wbadmin restore catalog -backuptarget:d: Someone please help. I stand to possibly lose a decade of family pictures and home movies without restoration. This was the backup for the backup as it has been reliable for years...
Restoration of backup
Restoring backed up data by other than the backup creator is possible or not in windows 2012 server
Unable to backup Server 2012 R2 on failover cluster.
Hi,
We cant backup Server 2012 R2 in failover cluster but standalone server 2012 R2 can be backup without any problem.
We are using Netbackup 7.7 to backup data.
Our envrionment is configured at below
- Netbackup Master/Media Server: 2008 R2, Netbackup 7.7.1
- Failover Cluster: Windows 2008 R2
- All our servers are 2008 R2
We create new test cluster with Server 2012 R2 to see if we can backup but we cant in server 2012 R2 is in cluster but if its standalone server it all works fine.
Thank you
