Does Window's center ever call people to tell them they are showing virus coming through on their server? I had a person call (of course with an accent) that stated that I had virus hitting the windows center and he had to remote in to remove them from my system. He did have me go to the event viewer and I have tons of errors showing, but how can I trust this person is actually from windows?? I wouldn't let him remote in, and I tried to run a malware program which did find 3 issues and they are removed, however, how do I remove these errors this guy from "windows" is talking about?? And would it really be windows calling??
Call from Windows center???

2008R2 VSS VERY SLOW Issue
Windows Server 2008 R2,
-Hyper-V Roll installed, 4 Guests running.
-Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 Installed
Server is patched up to date.
Backups of this server, if System State and Shadow Copy Components are selected, will take 11hours, normally ~1.5 hours without backing up the Guests. This is due to what I believe are the snapshots taking 2 hours on each volume. Actual throughput
on the backup jobs is normal, except for system state and shadow copy components.
VSSadmin List writers gives 'Waiting for responses. These may be delayed if a shadow copy is being prepared.' and will return the writers list after 10-20 minutes. All writers are working and stable.
All other VSSADMIN commands are standard response time (read: instant), VSSadmin list providers, list shadows, etc all work normally
When this issue originally occurred, there was some writers that were [5] waiting for completion.
Stopping starting services, rebooting etc do not resolve the issue.
I tried to reinitialize vss with the DLL reregistering writeups that I found. This did not resolve the issue.
There are alot of 'my vss fails' or has some errors, but no 'just takes a long time, and doesn't timeout' issues out there.
I need a place to continue looking

Windows Backups fail - UnregisterDeviceInterfaceNotification error...
When I try to run a windows backup, it fails immediately when it tries to create the snapshot... in event viewer it says this:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine UnregisterDeviceInterfaceNotification(00000000003F32B0) [1062]. hr = 0x80070426, The service has not been started.
.
I have already gone through and changed the shadow copies for the tiny boot partition to use the C drive instead (this fix has worked on several other servers, but this server persists with this confounded mysterious error).
I can manually start and stop the Volume Shadow Copy service - it's set to manual and has no problem starting or stopping. What other service could this error be eluding too?
Here is a list of my vssadmin list writers:

I do not know enough about VSS and all these writers to do any good... I found a script to run from another forum which starts and stops some services, and it seems to change my writers list... the bat file does this:
net stop EventSystem
net stop swprv
net stop vss
net stop winmgmt
net stop apphostsvc
net start apphostsvc
net start EventSystem
net start swprv
net start vss
net start winmgmt
When the batch file completes, then my vssadmin list writers looks like:

Syntax for backup the hole server including bare metal restore + question regerading incremental backup
Hi guys.
Currently we are ussing a powershell script which runs:
$backuplocation = \\networkshare\EXCHANGE-DB
wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:$backuplocation -include:"D:\ExchangeDB" -vssfull -quiet | Out-FileForce "$backuplog"
With this script we are making BACKUP od EXCHANGE databases.
We want to prepare another powershell script which would backup the hole system one a week, but we would like to know what's the right syntax: We would like to include:
* bare metal recovery
* system state
* system reserved
* Local disk C:
So this would look like wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:$backuplocation2 -include:??????
One more question regarding making Exchange backups on network share.
Is there anyhow possible to achieve incremental backups?

Restauraton of users, groups, (whit SID) and OU to a new active directory instalation
Hi!
I have to reinstall my Domain controller. (Windows server 2008 R2 standard). I just have one domain controler (not 2 as windows recommend).
My 100Mbs partition for boot is in a different HD than the operating system. So I need to reinstall he domain controller to put this boot partition inside the operational system HD. ( I need to do this, is hard to explain why must I do it now.)
Do you know if there is a windows or third party tool to export the users, groups (Whit the SIDs) and OUs of my actual domain controller and before import them to my new instalation of Active directory?
I don´t need to restore Sysvol, scrips, GPOs......
It seem easy but it´s getting really difficult!!!
Thanks so much!!!
Server 2012 as a Backup Server
Hi,
I am hoping to reuse an existing Dell server to use as my primary backup device. The simple reason is that is has a large capacity and will save me investing in a new storage device.
I have installed Server 2012 on the server and am curious -
1. Should I just create a share on the large volume and point my backup software to the share. In this case should I team the NICs on the server to spread the load.
OR
2. Should I configure the Server 2012 as an iSCSI target.
If I go with Option 2 I need to configure iSCSI Initiator on each device to be backed up - in some cases this is already configured already e.g. my File Server and Hyper-V host already use iSCSI sessions to connect to my SAN. Will this cause a conflict or can these devices use the same iSCSI ports to connect to various iSCSI targets?
Thanks
NtBackup doesn't run on Server 2003 in scheduled task
Hi,
I set up an NTBackup scheduled task. But the problem is that the job doesn't run when the user isn't logged on. Even when I try to execute only NtBackup with a scheduled task, it doesn't start when I'm not logged on with the user specified.
I urgently need a solution for this problem and it's no option to leave the user logged in.
Server 2008 VSS problems, "aborted because of a failed free space computation"
Anything I try to do anything that uses VSS on this server I get one of these in the event log:
The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of a failed free space computation.
The shadow copies of volume E: were aborted because of a failed free space computation.
The shadow copies of volume \\?\Volume{0133a9b8-7573-11e2-be56-806e6f6e6963} were aborted because of a failed free space computation.
I get that when trying to enable shadow copies, doing a backup of anything with Windows Server Backup or a 3rd party backup product. All the vss writers are stable.
All help is appreciated,
Matt
System State Backup on a 2012 Virtual Server with Active Directory Fails
I am using DPM 2012 SP1, but to keep things simple I ran the built-in windows 2012 system state backup and it fails. I have two 2012 servers with the exact same behavior.
My Environment:
OS=Server 2012
Virtual = Yes
Virtual Environment = Hyper-V 2012 Cluster
Command = wbadmin.exe start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:C:
NOTE: I can run a NTDSUTil AD Snapshot and it works.

Windows Server 2012 wbadmin deep dive asking
Hi everyone,
Since I cannot find any useful information in Technet, I decided to post my questions here:
1. I use wbadmin to daily backup the system partition, using VSS Full Backup. As far as I concerned, each backup item would take approximately the same amount of space as the data it backed up. As you can see, the data need to be backed
up is about 220GB, and it's been backed up 18 times. But the total space18 backups take is only about 460GB. If this is Incremental backup, there's no doubt. But hey, this is Full Backup, isn't it? Can anyone explain this to me, please?
2. When the backup destination for the upper job is about to full, I've met 2 cases:
- The destination is full, and the server (which is a VM) will be freezed. The only way to make the VM running again is to remove the destination disk. In this case, we have a little down time, but at least we still have our backups.
- All the backups are wiped away, making space for the new one. We have no backups other than the latest one. I thought that wbadmin would just delete the oldest one to make space, not ALL my backups like that. But it DID, seriously :(
When I search for more info on Technet, there's nothing much: "If you are backing up to a hard disk or volume you can specify a deletion policy to determine whether backups should be deleted only when necessary to make space for additional backups or if they should be deleted after a certain number of backups have passed."
I can see that there's an option in the Shell that could do the trick: "wbadmin enable backup -allowDeleteOldBackups", but I'm not so sure that it will delete all the previous backups or not.
Any idea would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Will GFI backup preserve NTFS files and folder permission details during backup ?? - Windows 2008R2 need to restore file server with all data
Hi All,
We are currently using GFI free backup software to take file server data ( File server data only ) we are planning to configure RAID on file server HDDs by adding more HDDs. at the moment we don't have RAID configured on our server. we have a single domain. what we are planning to do is take a backup of all file server data ( currently resides on two hard disks ) and add more hard disks and configured RAID on them by adding extra HDDs. this will change partitions and we need to format original disks. their will be only one disk after RAID configuration. After that we can restore data from backup disks. my worrying is we are taking GFI backups ( GFI free backups ). Once we restore data do I need to assign folder and file permissions again one be one. I didn't have a look to GFI backup. ( Backup process is done by other person ) and I don't know for sure whether they have that feature. for system I will take windows system image and restore it. so we can restore the OS without issue. and we have installed DFS ( distributed File System service on the file server ) with new arrangement we may need to reconfigure the DFS folder path also because we mapped data on two physical disks to DFS am I correct ? please advice
thanks

Hello all,
I would like to separate data flow on my NIC interfaces. One only for public use....where all data flows through, and one only for the backup, which will be used by windows backup only. Two interfaces, two seperate network. IS that possible to control that?
Create multiple Backup Schedules
Hello,
I would like to configure out Windows Server 2008 R2 servers for automatic updates (C disk, system state, two folders on D disk). I can do this with Backup Schedule option but this option enables me to create only one backup task, but I need more than one backup
task on the same server. Is there any way to overcome this issue? If nothing else, I believe I can do this with wbadmin, but is there any GUI way like it was in NT Backup? If wbadmin is the only way, can you please give me an example how to run wbadmin so
that it will backup system state, including bare metal backup, C partition and boot partition and Folders FolderA and FolderB on D partition.
Also, should I use -vssFull switch in wbadmin or not?
One more question about Windows SharePoint 3.0 backup. What is the best (and free) way to backup full WSS database, sites configuration, files - to create a full WSS backup?
Thank you!
Best wishes,
Marko
The backup operation that started at "" has failed with following error code '2155347997'
Any backup that includes system state is failing. We are using Backup Exec 2012 but during troubleshooting are now just trying to backup the system state using Windows Server Backup and consistently get this error. I also get the error running from CLI but there are no logs created. Windows SBS 2011 SP1 64 bit 24GB RAM. Currently backing up to a data partition but originally using an RD1000 (which was replaced during troubleshooting). Here is the error from the Windows Server Backup event log:
