Hi there!
I'm lost recovering the VM's VHD files of a Windows Server Backup of Server 2008 Hyper-V.
I have two files inside a backup destination directory:
\\storageserver\f$\VMs\backup.cbm - 195 KB (200.512 bytes)
\\storageserver\f$\VMs\backup.vhd - 97,6 GB (104.857.600.512 bytes)
When mounting the backup VHD on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition without Hyper-V Role installed, Device Manager says:
Disk 3 - Unknown - 97,66 GB - Not Initialized
97,66 GB - Unallocated
When I try to restore using Windows Server Backup on either Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition without Hyper-V Role or Hyper-V Server 2008 R2, I select:
The specified remote shared folder does not contain any backup. Provide the path to a remote shared folder that contains backups.
How can I solve this? I do not need to recover the VM's configuration, just the VM's VHDs is fine.
What the ____ is a CBM file?
Thank you!

Hi,
I need some help in order to backup (only selected data/sql database and not the whole system) to a remote mounted Ftp folder using windows backup feature
Can you provide some help commands etc, because i can't do it with windows backup
Thank you
I am using windows 2008 r2 ,with sp1
Now i am doing it through cpanel in linux, but i am moving my websites to a windows serverHi guys,
We got hit with the crytolocker virus on 4/11/2014. There's about 8000 files that were infected and therefor need to restore these files using windows backup.
Is it possible to use WBADMIN to recover files that were modified on 4/10/2014 and 4/11/2014? my goal here is to only recover the files that the virus modified and not recover 100,000 files that weren't infected.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Manager and I have a Domain Controller as VM (which is running Server 2012 R2) and I would like to enable replicationfor this VM(I want to back up the Domain Controlloer).

I have taken over in a new role and found that while backups were being conducted on a regular basis, the backup solution was not VSS aware and almost 1TB of log files had accrued since Exchange was installed in 2011!
I have implemented the use of the Windows Server Backup utility on the Windows 2008 R2 server that hosts Exchange 2010.
After verifying that I had achieved consistency within the mail databases, I scheduled a Full VSS Backup to run every night to a series of externally attached USB hard drives, and was happy to see that each days Exchange log files are now being flushed after each back up.
However, when reviewing the backup reports within Windows Server backup utility, I note that each backup following the initial FULL backup to each hard drive is referred to as Incremental? I was under the impression that in specifying a VSS FULL Backup, any existing backup found within the WindowsImageBackup folder on the backup media would be overwritten in it's entirety but it seems that the existing Full backup is instead being 'modified' by each subsequent backup?
Also, the collective size of the .vhd files created on the backup media is significantly larger than the space shown within Windows Explorer as 'used' on each of the volumes backed up?
Could someone please explain these apparent anomalies? - Thanks

Server 2008 R2 SP1 using Windows Server Backup connected to NAS via iSCSI. Scheduled nightly backups have been working correctly for over a year.
A running backup has been stuck for 12+hours with the message "Removing deleted items..." There is plenty of storage available on the NAS.
Attempting to cancel the job via GUI brings up another window "Please wait..." with a progress bar continually looping from 0 to 100%. Running cmd as Administrator using wbadmin stop job, prompts Yes or No , answering Y doesn't responds with a blank line. I can't reboot the server until the weekend, are there processes or other services I can try to stop?
Lou H.
I performed backup of a volume storing a database on my server using Windows Server Backup (WSB).
Now I have some old shadows that I would like to remove.
To do that, I use the vssadmin command with ShadowID that I'd like to remove:
vssadmin delete shadows /Shadow={9bae879d-979e-4ec0-b252-720de085d2bf}
However, I get the response
Error: Snapshots were found, but they were outside of your allowed context. Try
removing them with the backup application which created them.
Well, the application that created these shadows was WSB, and WSB GUI does not have command to delete old shadows.
How can I delete these shadows?
TIA

We're currently running into issues backing up our Windows Server 2012 VMs through the integrated Windows Server Backup utility. Each time the VM attempts to backup to the Shared Network Folder on our QNAP NAS, it generates the following event log on the VM:

Hi,
I have installed the Windows Server Backup feature several times in Windows Server 2012, but the "Windows Server Backup UI" is missing under the "Administrative Tools" and under the \System32\wbadmin.msc .
Any ideas how to re-create or workaround this problem ?
I really appreciate your help !
With kind regards,

Hey everyone,
I have a question, so our server is backing up all client computers to a "file history backups" folder on the servers hardrive.
For one of the users I cannot figure out where data, in a folder, is coming from.
The file structure is as follows:
D:\File History Backups\UserName\Computer\UserName@Domain.local\Computer\Data\$OF
I'm not sure what the $OF is referring to and where the data is coming from. Its filled with data but I'm not sure from where on the client computer.
Each folder has data in it.
Can you please explain what is going on.
Dear Microsoft
I Have two server windows 2008 server (server1,server2) with dfsr, one night at 8;18 PM somehow one of the server (server2) started the replication when i scheduled the replication to start at 9PM and on the log of server2 it said that there was a conflict on one folder and all the content of that folder is moved to ConflictAndDeleted folder, the folder size is around 11GB and the quota of ConflictAndDeleted is at the default 660MB only around 400MB of data is on that folder.
At server1 there is no log of coflict but the content of the same folder is also gone, i only have a backup of around 3 month ago, i tried scan the drive with getdataback and easus but no result, is there anyway to recover those file ?
Thanks for the help

Hi,
We have a setup where we use a physical Windows 2012R2 server as a dedicated backupserver. This server is running Veeam backup and replication services and has both a Network Attached Storage repository attached and a local external tapestreamer. It will have to backup our virtual mahines from a VMWare ESX hostserver.
This backupserver server has 2 Gigabit NIC's, and the Storagaserver (NAS) has also 2 Gigabit NIC's. The network switch however still has obsolete 100mb ports and has no free ports left.
So the easiest way for my customer would be to purchase a new Gigabit switch. This will happen in time but we are requested to look for an easier solution for the moment.
We therefore have connected the NAS to the second NIC of the backupserver thus creating a Gigibit link.
Would like some advise about the configuration now. We have some options:
- creating second separate network segment for the storage server, which will need a routing proces on the backupserver (will this not greatly affect the performance of the troughput?)
- teaming the NIC's in a way that heavy traffic to the NAS will not affect the network traffic to the LAN. I could need some advise..there is more that one way to team the NIC's, waht is the best way ?
Thank you for your advise.

hello, OS server 2012, 2008 r2, w7 ult.
I want to make backup only files which have archive attribute set. /M switch is what I need but robocopy wont reset archive bit from subfolders and only reset bit on files in root of source folder. How to force robocopy to reset archive bit from all copied files???
This is syntax:
@echo off
set year=%date:~10,4%
set month=%date:~4,2%
set day=%date:~7,2%
SET Now=%Time: =0%
SET Hours=%Now:~0,2%
SET Minutes=%Now:~3,2%
Robocopy c:\source c:\dest /m /s /r:1 /w:1 /log:"c:\dest\Incremental_%month%-%day%-%year% %hours%h-%minutes%m.log" /NP
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a -tzip -mx1 C:\c\Incremental_%month%-%day%-%year%-%hours%h-%minutes%m.zip C:\dest
echo Y | DEL C:\Temp\*.*
I can use attrib command but I have in working folder 900.000 files so this is not option.
_______________
edit....robocopy work as expected in 2012 standard. /M switch reset archive attribute so I can use robocopy for incremental backups.
Script: c:\a is source and c:\b is destination. c:\b\temp is temporary folder from where 7zip package backed up files to archive. After 7zip finish jod script delete all files folders from temp folder. I want to use zip archive because this will be much easier for file system. With time I will have some zip files instead 10000000 files or folders. Zip files will have in name date and time for easier tracking.
@echo off
