I'm using Server 2008 R2 and getting regular backups every day. Mydisk will be full.My question to open up disk space How do I delete old updates for up dated.
Thank you in advance for your help
I back up my Windows 7 religiously every 3 months using Windows Backup and keep the hard drive at another location (in case of fire at home). This time everything went wrong:
Please, any advice what to do? I am very concerned about this. Above all my family's photos from 15 years seem to be lost, which is unacceptable.
Questions (answer any or all, please!):
Would really appreciate any help. Thank you.
The backup operation that started at <var>time</var> has failed with following error code ’2155347997′ (The operation ended before completion.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
Tried this hotfix it says it is not applicable to my computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2182466/en-us
My server 2012 consistently failing to do a backup to a network share located on my NAS. this is my first time trying to backup a server on a NAS.
I have a ReadyNAS 312 setup with Active Directory to read permission from domain users and give the users access to it. I can manually create folders and move files across but when it comes to backing a windows server to the NAS network share it fails.
I believe it's to do with either the permission or the credential details. I have tried using both domain administrator accounts and the nas default admin account when scheduling a backup.
The error message doesn't say much, it just fails basically. I'm trying to see if i can get further details on event viewer but can't really find it.
Any help on to this matter will be much appreciated.
Thank you
I am trying to setup Windows Server Backups in Server 2012R2
My script didn't work, so started troubleshooting from the very bottom. My backup target is a DLink NAS drive with shared folder (full anonymous access and also tried setting up a dedicated user) Source to back up is a small folder on drive C From Server Backup manager -> Backup Once, add my folder to items to backup, point to \10.1.1.49\Volumes_1 Click backup, goes trough initial motion and the fails with error: "The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file"
I have been having this problem for quite some time. Done a lot of googling and trying recommended fixes and still nothing. I've recreated the backup itself, checked registry keys, ran check disk on all disks involved in the backup and re-created the VHD that the backup uses.
The server is running Windows Server (R) 2008 Enterprise (x86)
The VHD is from a datastore on our vmware host.

Hi,
I have some problem with a brand new 2012R2 standard server.
we were able to backup the server from the beginning without problems with the built-in windows backup application.
After installing Solarwinds and SQL server on it, now we have this error in the event logs if we try to backup system state:
The operation ended before completion. Detailed error: The system writer is not found in the backup.
If I check the VSSAdmin list writers, system writer is missing.
We also have this error in the event logs :
Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.
Details:
AddWin32ServiceFiles: EnumServicesStatusEx API for service enumeration failed
System Error:
The data is invalid.
.
I did not find anything on the AddWin32ServiceFiles: EnumServicesStatusEx API... and the problem for the system writer seems to start from this error.
Anyone have an idea ?
thanks
Benoit
I am getting a error of "The system cannot find the path specified when I try to run windows server backup utility on windows 2008 standard
I have done a upgrade on one of my poweredge 2900 server from windows server 2008 standard to R2 Enterprise. Now I would like to push a backup from the 2008 standar to the enterprise and on the 2008 standard i am getting the error The system cannot find the path specified when I run the backup utility. Please Help
I am trying to find the most current documentation for the wbadmin command, a web search brings me to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754015.aspx however I do not believe that is complete.
For instance, when recovering a file you need to select an Item Type which according to the link above has to be Volume, App or File, however from digging around other places on the web I see that a type of HyperV is also supported and there seem to be additional options that go along with recovering virtual machines.
If I type wbadmin start recovery -? it does seem to show me those options but I am wondering if Microsoft has this information posted on a website someplace where it would be a bit easier to read through.
Thanks in advance.
I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 cluster that has a service that is installed on shared storage. On the passive node, the system state backups are failing because the path to the service executable does not exist. KB980794 existed for Server 2008, which contained a hotfix and a registry key that could be added to exclude the paths to binaries that should not be included in the system state backup.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SystemWriter\ExcludedBinaryPaths
Is there a similar method of excluding these paths in Windows Server 2012 that will allow the VSS snapshot to execute successfully?
Hi All
I know this is something Dell should propably help with but maybe someone here can put me in the right direction
We are running backups on our Virtual environment using veeam and we are receiving the following error:

The shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation.

Looking at the host that the VM runs on I get the following two errors:

Hey everyone,
I have a question, so our server is backing up all client computers to a "file history backups" folder on the servers hardrive.
For one of the users I cannot figure out where data, in a folder, is coming from.
The file structure is as follows:
D:\File History Backups\UserName\Computer\UserName@Domain.local\Computer\Data\$OF
I'm not sure what the $OF is referring to and where the data is coming from. Its filled with data but I'm not sure from where on the client computer.
Each folder has data in it.
Can you please explain what is going on.

Hi All,
Can someone help me with this error i am trying to restore a systemstate backup on top of a server that i recently restore from a full backup of the same server i am trying to restore using systemstate.
Thanks,
We are going to upgrade or server to Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
Today we are using Symantec Backup Exec.
Will the built in backup in WS be enough?
We will be using MS SQL Server and it's crucial that that data will be backed up properly.
