WHS 2011 Restore Fails with "The driver has been blocked from loading"

$

I am attempting to evaluate WHS 2011.  I have one server and one workstation which is running the connector.  The client computer is running Win 7 Prof 64-bit SP1.  The nightly backup appears to be occurring with no errors but when I attempt to "Restore files or folders for the computer" from the Dashboard, I get the following error:

The restore process did not succeed

This driver has been blocked from loading

The dashboard is V6.1.8800.16389

I can find only two google entries on this error message and they provies no help.  I uninstalled the connector software - rebooted - then reinstalled to no avail.

So, it appears that WHS backup is useless.  This makes WHS pretty useless.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

(aside to the WHS development team - I hate wimpy error message .  "this" is pretty ambiguous in the error message - what driver specifically  is the problem? -- if i knew I might be able to trouble shoot it)

Slow backup preformance

Hi,

We just upgraded our Server 2008 to a Server 2012R2. The backup is sent to a shared network drive. We had greater transfer speed with 2008 and are trying to find a solution on 2012R2. Any suggestions?

We tried choosing High Preformance in the Power Option.

Windows server essentials, restore files after a system crash

Hi,

Running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard, I've made a backup of files and folders on our old server using Windows Server Backup to an USB-drive. Then the motherboard got fried and I am now trying to restore these files on a new server.

When I use Windows Server Backup interface I can't select the USB-drive. So I try to do it through the Dashboard but then I get an error saying that there are no backups configured. If I agree to continue and configure a backup and select the USB-drive it prompts me to format it, which I don't want to cause then I lose my backup.

Anyone have an idea how I can access my backup?

Thanks in advance,

Roger

Server 2012R2 Windows backup 100% CPU usage and no backup

$

Hello!

I have a problem with two VM´s on a HP Proliant ML350p Gen8, that has Windows Server 2012R2 operating system with Hyper-V role installed.

Both VM´s are also 2012R2, one is DC/DNS/FILE/PRINT and the other one is Exchange 2013.

The problem itself is that, when Windows backup (wbengine.exe - Block level backup engine service) inside VM starts, it uses almost maximum CPU resource, so the VM´s CPUs are 100% used. Backup itself is not working, there is no network trafic. Only way to get rid of 100% CPU usage is to restart the server.

When i start backup manually (Backup once - scheduled backup options), it is working and the CPU usage is around 20-30%.

One VM (DC/DNS/FILE/PRINT) has 2x vCPU and Exchange has 4x vCPU.

The problem started suddenly, the backup were performing slowly and failed.

Backups are scheduled on different time. Host level Hyper-V backup of VM´s works without any problem.

The backup location is Synology DS414 NAS and the servers are set up using iSCSI, for connecting separate backup lun´s for each server.

The Hyper-V host and both VM´s are patched up-to-date. Ofcourse i have tried a lot of restarts, looking event log, VSSADMIN - cannot find any errors...

The network setup:

Hyper-V host has a team of two physical adapters, that is set up with a external virtual switch (shared with management operating system) and used by the VM`s normal network trafic.

Hyper-V host itself is using separte physcial network card, for connecting with iSCSI to Synology NAS.

I tried to set up another physical network card on the host and create a new virtual swich, add extra virtual nic to VM`s and use this for iSCSI traffic for Windows backup and it didnt make things better.

I need to find a solution, because i cannot restart the server every night for the backups to work.

Test-Recovery of one of two Domain Controllers (Server 2008 R2)

hello,

I do have a question about restoring an DC testwise to make sure I would be prepared in case of a real disaster:

We have
1. in our main office a Windows 2008R2 Server with an Active Directory and an Oracle database
2. also in the main office an Exchange 2010 server
3. in a branch office that is connected by VPN another 2008 R2 server with AD to enable user logons in case of a network interruption.

All machines are backed up using Windows' own backup tool.

I wanted to test a recovery of the main office's DC onto an unused hardware which is not connected to the network. The restore itself went smooth, the server boots up but takes very long to log me on. After that I had reset the server to the original IP address and rebooted but still I can hardly do anything because - that's how explain it for myself - it waits for the initial replication to the second DC to get  up-to-date information? Of course I can not do that because this machine is just an additional copy that should not exist.

If my assumptions are correct I would say that one of my goals is already achieved and the AD would recover after the replication in case it was a real restore?

How could I get the recovered test server to ignore replication and just start working with an old AD? I would like to connect to the Oracle database simply to see everything is there and the ERP system works, but I cant because is seems my DNS resolution isn't working correctly. I guess because it is AD integrated. (This is what I assume because of various error- or warning messages. Please tell me if you think I'm wrong.)

To recover the second (branch office) DC I dont have the required hardware and I guess it wouldn't help anyway because then I have two machines waiting for a replication that never happens?

Thank's in advance for any suggestions,
kind regards, Markus

Hi,

I've a requirement from a client for redundancy. He wants to run a database application in two identical servers simultaneously. The servers shall be connected in one subnet and will act like mirror copies. If one of the servers goes down, the other shall keep on functioning with no down time and once functioning back can be added back to the system without affecting the other and the database must be updated (hot redundancy). Any solution on Microsoft based. ?

Hi,

I have Server 2012 R2 on my site.  I also installed Server Essential Experience on server. Using Server Essentials dashboard i configured backup and everything worked well.

Yesterday i installed new standalone HDD in the server (for backup purpose). I used Server essentials dashboard to move Client Computer Backup folder to location on the new disk. After doing so the backup stopped working. When i try to set up backup for client computer i get error message (see image1)

Also when i try to change backup settings i get this error

Here are some of the events from event viewer.

It is important to say that when i change client backup folder to original location everything works again. Any clues ?

Hi all,

I'm facing with issue, please help raise idea to solving.

Server1:
-OS 2k8 r2 Japanese :/
-Role Read-only domain controllers
-Software backup Symantec recovery 2013
-Account in use: domain administrator with password
-Local account disabled
-1st NIC adapter in use with static IP, 2nd NIC adapter not connect (DHCP)
Restore session:
-Restored full image (include Raid driver support,EFI partition, system state C: drive)
-In windows logon, login success without any issue.

Server2:
-Same HW (Type, model, equipment quantity...) as Server1
-Restored method same way as Server1
-In windows login appearance, login failed with Access denied message

Tried method: (using windows 2k8 r2 Japanese boot CD change ultiman.exe by cmd.exe)
-Check 1st NIC adapter, static IP gone -> Finish static IP setup -> Failed logon
-Tried change password, add user... -> Failed to create.

Currently - MOSTLY STUCK:
-Idea about AD function feature backup/restore/migration but don't know how to do next...

PS:
-I was newbie about AD
-Admin accoutn input by customer, i don't have right to use it.

Dear Team,

Here with I need to confirm If I take the system state backup of the windows server 2012 where AD is installed. Same time I've created new group policy also I need to push in one OU for testing purpose.

But I need to confirm whether if its not done successfully whether we can move back to same stage. If any new policy will

affect on the OU.

Whether we can have the same stage that last OU with the same policy?

Windows Server 2012 R2 Backup to thin provision iSCSI fails: error code 0x80780049

Volume backups succeed with 1.13 GiB of data.

However, backups fail on the same volume when I increase the data to 50.2 GiB.

The target volume is a thinly provisioned 1 TiB iSCSI drive that WBAdmin formatted and dedicated entirely for backups. It takes WBAdmin an unusually long time (tens of minutes) to quickly format the drive. Yet data transfers fairly quickly: the 1.13 GiB backup completes in 1 minute.

During backup, WBAdmin snap-in reports transfer complete and compacting begin: compact stays 0% for a minute or so, jumps to 6%, stays for another couple of minutes, fails. I think it's timing out.

I've tried backups with and without deduplication, small (1.13 GiB) or large (96.86 GiB): large backups fail regardless of deduplication, small backups succeed regardless of deduplication. Only size seems to matter.

Backup Source

  • Physical data: 50.2 GiB (deduplicated)
  • Logical data: 96.86 GiB
  • Volume: 256 GiB
  • File system: NTFS
  • Allocation unit size: 16 KiB
  • Storage device: locally attached hard drive

Backup Target

  • Volume: 1 TiB
  • File system: NTFS
  • Allocation unit size: 4 KiB (WBAdmin defaults)
  • Storage device: thinly provisioned iSCSI

How To Restore VM from Backup?

$

0

Dear Hyper V Expert,

We are using Windows Server 2012 Standard as the HYper V Server and I have some VMs built inside. From the forum, I know that we can use Windows Backup to Backup VM and restore it. I have just create a schedule for the full VM backup (backing up the VHDX files, snapshot folder, etc)and will be running starting tonight.

My question is, in case, how should I restore the VM from the backup that I have made using the Windows backup? So It can be restored to another server as fast as possible when the VM on another server is totally corrupted or down?

Thanks.

Good Day everybody here,

How are you all?

I have a very simple question, suppose I will use the Windows Server Backup tool to backup my server as Bare Metal backup (either VM or physical server, which works as DC, DNS, Web..or any), now my question: can I restore this backup to different physical machine or VM??

Thanks
Best Regards
