Hi all,

Our company will use new backupservice account to run all backup job. But we do not want to add backupservice into Domain Admin group to backup DC system state (Win2012R2). Backupservice account already add into Backup Operators group but still cannot access DC system state. Anyone know anything else need to do to achieve my requirement? Thanks in advance.

i created 2 servers, one core one GUI standard. i was attempting to run a backup to remote location from serve GUI to server core. i created a share folder and gave admin full rights to the share. the folder was shared successfully. going through the backup wizard i type in the file path for the backup and get questioned about credentials. i type in credentials for both local and domain admins and still receive error saying that either i am typing in credentials wrong or do not have privileges to the share. i just lost 10 points on an exam. thanks Microsoft. thanks for making server 2012 just as horribly garbage as windows 8

We have Windows 2012 Server hosting 2 VMs - Domain Controller & RDS.  We have been doing Windows Server Backup incremental and have an ongoing issue with scheduled backups each night.  The backup shows completed with warnings and generates 2 log files.

The first log files shows:

Backup of volume \\?\Volume{5d46f853-5db2-11e2-93e7-806e6f6e6963}\ succeeded.

Backup of volume C: succeeded.

Backup of volume F: succeeded.

We had been getting a successful backup once or twice a week which showed completed (with no mentioned of warnings) but now it regularly shows completed with warnings as noted above.

We did a manual full backup of the DC to a different external drive a few days ago and that completed without warnings and the backup shows:  E: Completed 63.38 Full - VSS Copy Backup Successful, 8/27/13 3:35 PM - 4:43 PM. Data Transferred 63.38

On a side note, we can view the logs in the windows/logs/windowsserverbackup directory but when we attempt to view the details of a log file through the Local Backup Console for any log which shows completed with errors, we get a "MMC has detected an error in the snapin and will unload and then it shows Object referenced not set to instance of an object."  The manual backup noted above that was successful is able to be viewed through the Local Backup Console without this error.

Any idea as to why this is failing during the scheduled backups?  This hosts a database that we need to have regular successful backups.

Access to Server that is not in domain

Dear Server Expert,

In our environment, we have one server running server standard 2012 and it is not joined to the domain and all of clients computer are not joined to domain too. Currently, they are only in workgroup environment as we also don't have AD

May I know what is the best way to have the full access right so we are able to access the server and copy all the data out for a backup, for instance access to the server C or D drive from clients computers? i have local admin password with me. but i am still not able to access those server local drives for copy and paste operations.

Thanks.

Setup:
Windows server 2012R2 on host. only has Hyper-V and windows backup services running.

6x Hyper-V virtual machines running windows server 2012R2

All software up to date with windows updates.

Host is a HP Blade 460 G9, no HD os is on a HP SD flash (this is the recommended config) guests are on a HP Storage Blade D2220 8x300gb sas raid 10. backup is to an external usb drive connected to the host blade. have also tried running a back to a shared folder on the storage blade. Im just trying to backup the guest hyper-v's

Have been unable to run a windows server backup since day one of install, same error constantly, see below.

Host:
Event ID 8299 VSS
A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f4, the writer experienced a non-transient error if the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur.

Event ID 10172 Hyper-V
Vss Writers inside virtual machine ... failed to perform BackupComplete to it shadow copy (VSS snapshot) set: Catastrophic failure (0x80000FFFF).

Guest: No errors that I can find in event logs

Running VSSadmin list writers doesn't display any writers in a error state.

the backup fails almost immediately with no effort to backup data.

only information I can find online is in relation to the integration services being up to date, which they are.

***Please do not suggest using other software for backing up, I want to use the integrated windows server backup - I have my reasons. There is NO reason why this solution should not work as is out the box

I have 2 install disks for W2k8 install, a 32 bit and 64. I have tryed both on the 64 bit server with no luck. Windows Server 2008 R2 Problems with Bootmgr missing and others...

$

I don't know why I do this to myself.

Everything was working fine until I decided to update the BIOS and finally found the correct BIOS file and flashed it using EZ Flash 2 on a ASUS L6T SE Motherboard. Now once done, I returned to bios and changed my boot order back to normal and now get a BootMGR missing. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.

Now I've looked everywhere online. I have a installation disc in the DVD drive and tried to do a Windows RE recovery in command. All the Bootrec commands, BCDedit commands, even in DISKPART and making my Disk 0 active. Nothing works! Then I gave up and now as my last resort I can't even reinstall a new Server OS on any of my drives! It tells me: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition."

When I try to use the Windows RE it asks for drivers because my operating system is not listed. I tried downloading drivers from the ASUS website and none of them work. I have officially given up. I should of just left it alone. :(

Problem with Microsoft CSV Shadow Copy Provider

$

Hi everyone,

I am hoping that someone can help me out here.  I have a 2 node 2012 R2 Hyper-V Failover Cluster, and I am trying to get our Veeam backups to work on this Cluster.  On node 1 the backups work fine with no issues, but on node 2 the Veeam jobs constantly fail with the following error:

10/09/2015 14:39:23 :: Unable to create snapshot (Microsoft CSV Shadow Copy Provider) (mode: Veeam application-aware processing with failover). Details: Failed to check whether provider '{400a2ff4-5eb1-44b0-8a05-1fcac0bcf9ff}' supports shadow copies on the volume '\\?\Volume{d8496e1b-cf0c-4cf4-8554-0afd39f67e5d}\'.The volume shadow copy provider is not registered in the system.--tr:Failed to add volumes to the snapshot set.--tr:Failed to perform pre-backup tasks.
On the node where the backups are failing, issuing the command to list the providers only shows the following providers:

C:\Windows\system32>vssadmin list providers
vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool
(C) Copyright 2001-2013 Microsoft Corp.

Provider name: 'Microsoft CSV Shadow Copy Helper Provider'
   Provider type: Software
   Provider Id: {26d02d81-6aac-4275-8504-b9c6edc5261d}
   Version: 1.0.0.1

Provider name: 'Microsoft File Share Shadow Copy provider'
   Provider type: Fileshare
   Provider Id: {89300202-3cec-4981-9171-19f59559e0f2}
   Version: 1.0.0.1

Provider name: 'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0'
   Provider type: System
   Provider Id: {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5}
   Version: 1.0.0.7

But for some reason on the working node, it lists the above providers along with the additional provider that Veeam is expecting:

Provider name: 'Microsoft CSV Shadow Copy Provider'
   Provider type: Software
   Provider Id: {400a2ff4-5eb1-44b0-8a05-1fcac0bcf9ff}
   Version: 1.0.0.1

I could really do with knowing why node 2 is missing this provider, and how I can get it installed so that I can get the backups to work.  The Cluster Nodes were both built at the same time using the same configuration, so why this is missing is a mystery to me!

Any help anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

There has been no explicit volume size change, however these VM all use Dynamically expanding virtual hard disk (VDHX).

A forth VM (Gen 1) running Windows 7 Pro, also provisioned with a Dynamically expanding virtual hard disk does not exhibit this behaviour when it performs a Windows backup.

How can I rectify this situation?

TIA

Keep size of Win7 FILE backups in check automatically?

$

0

I have Windows 7 Backup utility set to backup just one directory of files to another location (long story as to why, suffice it to say that's all that needs to be backed up on this machine).

How do I keep the target directory from growing infinitely huge?  I would ideally like to keep a one-week rolling window of these backups in the target/backup directory and have it automatically prune those backups that are older than a week.

I don't see where the Windows Backup tool lets you specify that option (it has some options about managing sizes in regards to IMAGE backups--but not file backups)...and I can't find any script out there that would seem to be suited to the job (I would be happy to have a Task Manager job run every night to prune backups older than a week)--whatever works!!!

Any ideas or suggestions?

Power outage coused the servers running in 2012 R2 "Hyper-V" to stop working.

Hello All,

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The other day, we had a power outage that messed up something in the windows backup and recovery program.

I have The 2012 R2 Host, With 2 servers running in Hyper-V.

1 is Winsvr. and the other is an AD. Both in Hyper-V.

All 3 are set to do auto backups everyday, each at different times of the day.

They were both set to backup to an external 1TB SSHD set to A:

The Host does it's backup as it should. But the two in Hyper-V, is where the problem lies.

The AD Server, had gone from backing up daily to only backing up every few days.  And the WinSvr will not backup at all, says the path does not exist.

What are my options, and how can i fix this?

Thanks

Rick

Recovery VM from WinPE

Hi,

I have a Hyper-V server 2012 R2 with 4 VMs. I did backup of them (windows Backup installed on Server with Hyper-V role), and now would like to test recovering on another Hyper-V server. But i'm trying to do this from WinPE, that can't see any backups. It is possible to recovery by this way?

if it isn't possible, then can I recovery VM on Windows 10 Hyper-v ? if yes, how?

Thank you!

Unable to schedule a wbadmin backup to NAS

Hello,

I have written a small batch script to make a Windows 2012 VM backup to NAS :

net use F: \\NAS-BACKUP-01\FullBackup Password /user:username /p:yes
wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:"F:\SRV-NAV-01\Quotidien" -hyperv:SRV-NAV-01 -quiet -vssCopy >> C:\backuplogs_NAV.txt
net use F: /DELETE

This script work fine when launched directly (using an admin account).

However, I receive an error when this script is started via the Scheduler :

This will back up HyperV\SRV-NAV-01 to F:\SRV-NAV-01\Quotidien.
ERROR - The specified backup location could not be found or is not a supported backup storage location.

Remarks:

- Same result if the script is scheduled using an admin or the System account
- The script is always run with the highest privileges
- Admin and system account are allow to Log on as batch job
- Same result if the target is the network share (instead of F:)
wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:"\NAS-BACKUP-01\FullBackup\SRV-NAV-01\Quotidien" -hyperv:SRV-NAV-01 -quiet -vssCopy >> C:\backuplogs_NAV.txt

Do you have any idea to have this script running via the Scheduler ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Windows backup take too long - Server 2012R2

$

Hello all,

I have issue with one our server. The OS is Windows Server 2012R2 - VM on Vmware ESXI 5.5. There is Windows Backup - full not incremental for whole server. The server is back up via iSCSI HDD to NAS. It is mailbox server with Exchange server 2013. The whole server has about 200GB. It usually takes about 2 hours to finished backup, but sometimes the backup process runs more then 6 or 7 hours. When the backup takes to long the server becomes unresponsible in the middle of the night for about half an hour. There are other servers(VM) with Windows Backup to same NAS(in another time) and the process is faster. I tried System file checker but there is no inconsistence of system files.

Is it possible to turn on advanced logging of Windows Backup? Do you know what it could cause?

Thanks
