Windows server 2008 R2 64bits Windows Backup Error 2155347997

We had working in Windows 2008 Server Enterprise 64 bits the Windows Server Backup and was working perfect. Then we made the upgrade to Windows 2008 Server Enterprise 64 bits R2 after tht when we want to create a backup it stops giving the error 2155347997. Trying to fix we did this first:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askcore/2010/06/18/reasons-why-the-error-enumeration-of-the-files-failed-may-occur-during-system-state-backup/

We ran the GetInvalidPathsv2.ps1 and only detect instances of  "The service path contains spaces, the whole path needs to be enclosed using double quotes"

We have other server with Windows 2008 Enterprise NOT R2  and gives identical instances but Windows Server Backup works there.

Now what could be happening after the upgrade to Windows Server R2 why not run there? Before the update in Windows NOT R2 works fine just after the upgrade to R2 began the problem. Also we tried these 2 scripts running from a .bat without luck:

Takeown /f %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /a icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(RX)"icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant "NT Service\trustedinstaller:(F)"icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant BUILTIN\Users:(RX)Takeown /f %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\* /a icacls %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\*.* /grant "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(RX)"icacls %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\*.* /grant "NT Service\trustedinstaller:(F)"icacls %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\*.* /grant BUILTIN\Users:(RX)net stop cryptsvcnet start cryptsvc

I have a brand new 2008R2 SP1 server (Domain Controller) where I try to make SystemState backup. Backup seems to work fine, but I can not delete oldest.
I'm uncertain if I do have a valid SS backup.

I take backup with this command:

ERROR - No system state backups were found.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So do I have a valid Systemstate backup ?
And can I trust I can use it to recover if needed, since it says "No system state backups were found" ?
And why can't I delete the oldest backup ?

Need help with a remote backup server for my clients

$

Hi there I am trying to find an solution to a dilemma that may or may not be feasible to attempt to resolve. Kind of like reinventing the wheel. I am trying to put together a machine I can use to backup my clients systems. I realize that there are numerous online backup companies/sites out there that could do what I want for very cheap, however cost is not really the factor. Most of these inexpensive backup sites don't allow for unlimited backups or versioning of backups for any length of time, as a local backup does, rather they count individual completed backup sessions.  So for instance if they backup your pc once that counts as a session and if you backup daily after a week that counts for 7 sessions. Most online backup solutions will save anywhere from 5-15 sessions, which means if you client doesn't become aware of the error, or catch the deleted or overwritten file within that time span they are SOL and if you recommended the service or are associated as a partner to the backup service then you don't look or smell very nice to your client. I know these online vendors have thousands of clients and this has everything to do with space limitations that is why I wish to setup my own device especially with drive size and pricing being what they are. I have a small client base maybe 20 companies and probably a total of 5 TB of data between them. I have a fiber optic internet connection with 100/100 up/down and most of my clients have similar or at the very least cable connections of 5-10 up/down. Can anyone recommend a solution in a box or lead me in the right direction that would allow me to setup a backup server that will allow remote backup access to my system. Preferably one that uses the built in backup client software that comes with windows. Like I said I may be trying to reinvent the wheel but for the safety of important data, I and my clients would feel better if we knew exactly where our data resided who has access to it and if necessary we could restore a file at least a year back. The backup would consist of individual files and folders, like QuickBooks company files, word and excel files, videos, music etc.. no SQL databases, no VM's or the like, strictly data no pc system images because of time and size constraints, unless it is possible or feasible to create the initial backup locally and import it to the server and then generate incremental backups afterwards. Please if possible help me re-invent the wheel.

Restoring data after all files mysteriously ended up with 0B in a shared folder

$

I'm pretty sure this problem was caused by a machine had malware on it, but to start with, all workstations and laptops have business antivirus and business malwarebytes subscriptions, and the owner realized today that all files in a shared folder (thousands of files) ended up as 0B in size. It didn't matter what the extensions were. The date stamps on the files are the original ones (going back to 2010 and earlier), but files, regardless of the extensions, are all 0B. I have shadow copies configured for all shares, and locally I maintain images of the servers for 1 week. We've had discussions of upgrading the NAS to retain more history, but the company has been in the process of raising capital, so that project has been put on hold. The owner noticed something strange on his computer Aug 6th, so we presume that is when the data was stripped from the files. I have images of the servers going back to Aug 9th, and we also have off site backups. Unfortunately, the off site backup company cut over to a new system about 1.5 months ago, but they had a problem with this location, and they completely redid the backups on Aug 8th, so they have no history for this company prior to Aug 8th. I discussed with the off site backup company about attempting to recover some iterations of the files earlier than Aug 6th from their old backup system, but they've not been able to produce anything. So, no dice.

I removed a failed backup hard drive about 3 months ago, so I'm going to attempt to resurrect that tomorrow. I'm also running data recovery software on the server's data drive, but the software is showing over 10 hours remaining. In the mean time, can anyone think of something I can try that might help recover the data? I'd like to make some progress tonight, but the chances don't seem very high.

Thanks

Hello,

I am trying to use command for some specifics reasons to back up 4 servers to a network location.  I created a local account on the server that needs to be backed up and on the server that hosts the backup location and gave it admin rights.  But when I run it I get an error saying "The user name or password is invalid".

If I run the same command and replace the credentials with a domain credentials that has admin rights it works.

wbadmin enable backup -addtarget:$backuplocation -schedule:00:30 -include:"c:,d:" -systemState -allCritical -vssFull -quiet -user:computer_name\man_backup -password:Password

Windows Server 2012 VSS error "The system writer is missing"

$

Hello All,

I have a HP server that I have just installed Server 2012 standard, SQL Server 2012 and Sharepoint 2013.

When I try to take bare metal backup I get the error: "The system writer is missing", I have tried the backup as the local admin and domain admin.

The backup will only work if I decide to back up C:, once I select "Bare Metal" or "System State" the backup fails.

I have tried this solution: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734021.aspx but have not had any luck yet.

When I run the command "vssadmin list writers" I can not see "System Writer" listed.

How can I add/turn on the System Writer?

I've got a server running Server 2012 R2 Standard with a 21TB volume that I need to backup. Unfortunately it appears that WSB isn't capable of backing up a volume of this size. I've searched and have not been able to find any definite volume limit in the documentation.

Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks,

Server 2012r2 Windows Backup Hyper-V item shows on VM as "offline" when it is not

$

This may be a question for Windows Backup; however, I feel it relates to the Hyper-V more. I recent migrated over all of our company's servers to virtualized instances running on a single 2012r2 standard host. Using the build-in Windows Server Backup utility, I created a backup-set for all four servers (1 SBS 2011 server and three supporting application servers). At one point later on, I needed to restore the SBS 2011 server from backup after a failed Exchange rollup. I restored the server to an alternate location and all is now running fine.

When I went to review my backup sets after running the Exchange Best Practice analyzer and having it report that there has not been a database backup in weeks. Windows Server Backup reports the newly restored SBS2011 server as being "offline"; however, it is not. It is running as it should and accepting requests as usual. I attempted to delete the backup schedule and recreate the set; however, Server Backup still thinks this server is "offline". This has me a bit worried as now either my Exchange is not recognizing that it is being backed up and transaction logs are not being written back or, worse yet, my virtual server is actually not being backed up at all.

Can anyone assist me with this issue?

Hello ... being quite new to Server 2008 backup, I have questions.  Is it possible to do FULL backups for Monday thru Friday only, excluding Saturday and Sundays?  Can individual backups be named (i.e. MonBackup, TueBackup, WedBackup, etc.)

Thanks so much
Tim

Tim ...

another question was asked of me.  Can server backups be copied?  i.e. We use 3 Seagate GoFlex external drives.  Can a drive be connected to a desktop and copied?

Hello

I have Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Version 6.0 (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) and I am trying to backup the System State. The command I am using is: wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:c:\Backup

The output and error I am getting when I hit enter in a command prompt that I am Running As Administrator is:

wbadmin 1.0 - Backup command-line tool
(C) Copyright 2004 Microsoft Corp.

Starting System State Backup [1/5/2012 1:13 PM]
Retrieving volume information...

This would backup the system state from volume(s) Local Disk(C:) to c:\Backup.
Do you want to start the backup operation?
[Y] Yes [N] No y

ERROR - Specified backup location could not be found.

It is my understanding that this command is correct and it should work provided that there is enough room on the drive(which there is). Any ideas as to why it isn't working? Many thanks.

VSSADMIN continually waiting for response from VSS writers

Hi Everyone,

We have a Corporate Server 2012 Datacenter Hyper-V Host with about 10 VM's which use ARCServe and the Microsoft Hyper-V writer.

We aren't getting backups and when I run a vssadmin list writers I get the "waiting for response"

C:\Windows\system32>vssadmin list writers
vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool
(C) Copyright 2001-2012 Microsoft Corp.
Waiting for responses.
These may be delayed if a shadow copy is being prepared.

I've restarted the volume shadow copy and Microsoft Software shadow copy provider services but it still won't list the vss writers.

Looks like a reboot will only resolve the issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Backup Error Windows 2012 R2 A virtual disk support provider for the specified file was not found.

When performing bare metal backup on windows server 2012 r2 machine using WBadmin I receive

A virtual disk support provider for the specified file was not found.   and the backup fails.

The target hdd is a 1TB external USB device.

I have applied the suggested fix from MedicalS in this forum ie

Please test to change the FsDepends service to "boot" and see the result. If issue persists you could simply change it back:

Find this key:

"HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FsDepends"

Under the "FsDepends" key, change REG_DWORD value "Start" from "3" to "0"

and rebooted but the problem persists.

Help any advice welcome !!!

Hello All,

Our Environment

Server 2012 Essentials and Surface Pro 4 Backup issue

$

I have a 2012 Essentials server  that currently backs up 8 machines - both desktops and laptops. I now have a MS Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 Pro that I want to backup. I am getting the following error: "An error prevented Backup from creating a snapshot of the volumes on this computer". There is room in the System Reserve partition of 550 mb. The backup service is running on the Surface Pro, the Windows Server client computer backup service is also running. Also, the Surface Pro is using UEFI/GPT. (I am already backing up another laptop that is using UEFI/GPT without an issue.)

Any idea of what the issue might be?

Thanks.
