Resilient Change Tracking

Can i use Resilient Change Tracking with Windows Server Backup? - If yes, how?

I did a backup on Hyper-v Server 2016 with performance set to incremental to an internal volume. I expected to see files like *.mrt and *.rct in the directory of the virtual hard disks, but there isn't.

Any links to that topic are welcome.

Thanks, S.

Windows 2008 R2 restore baremetal to Hyper-V Stop 7B error and wrong drive letters after successful restore

Recovering from a physical server failure on to Hyper-V running Windows 2008 R2 SP1. Single volume in the backup, restore from network share which completes successfully. Have ensured drive size is provisioned as larger then physical drives. Restore completes successfully but is allocating 100mb system partition to C: and my OS partition to D:. On reboot it flashes up with a stop 0x0000007B error.

I've tried a number of different things from posts but must be missing something here. In regards to the swapped drives I following the instructions to modify bcdedit changes as follows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2261423/error-message-when-you-restart-windows-server-2008-r2-after-you-perfor

The bcdedit changes seem to apply ok but the drives are still swapped after reboot. Manually changing in diskpart and regedit (per: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/223188/how-to-restore-the-system-boot-drive-letter-in-windows ) also doesn't seem to fix the swapped drives.

I believe the 7B error could be due to disk drivers on the physical server but I was trying to address the drive allocation error first, however strangely enough after making the above bcdedit changes it looks like the 7B error isn't flashing on startup anymore.

Appreciate any guidance on the drive letter issue. From other servers system partition should be hidden with no drive letter and OS should be C: but can't seem to get any changes to stick. Happy to share any details as needed. Thanks.

Error-Backup Services not running- but they are

I am using Server Essentials on a 2012R2 server.  This is a single server network.  Backup services were up and running for a couple of years, but suddenly they aren't functioning.  I can launch the backup using a script and task scheduler, but using server essentials I can't get it to finish using the setup action.  When I launch the setup wizard from the link in the server essentials dashboard the following is returned.

"Cannot setup server backup"

"Make sure that all backup services are running, and then try again.  If the problem exists, review the system alerts for related information."

Using services.msc I can see the backup service running.  VSS service was set to manual so I started it manually and reran the wizard and received the same error message.

Are there other services  I should check?

I looked in the event viewer but don't see any errors related to backup services.  I do see that server essentials had unexpectedly terminated.  When I came into today to work on this I noticed that server essential service was not running, so I started it.

What else can I check or do?

I shutdown and restarted the server.  On the restart the windows server essential management service terminated unexpectedly.  But from the event viewer (is there a better place to look for specifics on the error?) I can't tell why.  Is that keeping the backup server setup wizard from starting?

Problem with partion resulting in "One of the source volumes specified has an invalid format and cannot be protected using Windows Backup. Only volumes formatted with NTFS/ReFS can be protected."

We have two new Windows Servers 2012 R2 that I'm trying to set backups on using a script. When I used the -allCritical switch, I get the error specified in the subject. When I look at the partition information using diskpart, I see a 2048 MB partition with no drive letter labeled as System that is FAT32. I was never prompted to my recollection of what file system to format the partition with. Is it safe to assign this partition a letter, convert to NTFS, and then remove the drive letter?

Thanks

KB2781272 - Anywhere on this planet where I can get this hotfix?

I am in need of KB2781272 for my Windows Home Server 2011 but all links to its existance are no longer valid. I understand that support for this product stopped in April of 2016 but I am only looking for a hotfix file that, I would assume, still exists someplace. I am not looking for support, just the hotfix. Does anyone know where I can find it? Microsoft support has taken the attitude that its a dead product and will not seem to help. Not sure why there is no archive of old hotfixes someplace. Anyone have any ideas where I might be able to get this hotfix?

Thanks.

Microsoft Edge INET_E_RESOURCES_NOT_FOUND

This error message isn't that uncommon but what makes this issue unique is that Edge will say its a DNS issue, however google chrome, IE, firefox all works. Also if I switch to WIFI or MobileLTE Edge will work. And here is another kicker, it only happens in the morning after it has been either on a business trip and at home and when i get into the office this error message will last about 10-15 minutes before it starts working again.

I've tried ipconfig /flushdns

i've tried going to edge and about:flags; CTL+Shift+D; disable "Enable TCP Fast Open"

Any ideas?

Issue with remotely accessing a cluster node with Windows Server Backup MMC

Hi

I have a Windows Server 2016 Core hyper-V cluster with 3 Nodes, and a Windows Server 2016 GUI Mgmt Server.

I can mange all roles of each nodes with the mgmt Server without any problem except the Windows Server Backup. If I want to run from the MGMT Server the "Backup schedule" or "Backup now" assistant on a cluster node I get the error "The parameter is incorrect".

I do it like this:

1. MMC on MGMT Server

2. Add/Remove Snapin

3. Select Windows Server Backup

4. Choose the option "An other computer" and put the name of a cluster node.

5. Right click on "Local Backup" and "Backup schedule"

The crazy thing is if I stop the "Cluster service" on the target node, the "Backup schedule" assistant runs without any error.

Has anybody any idea?

Hello,

I am wondering if you can assist?

I currently have the issue that Windows Backup won't finish successfully.

Here is the error message - see: http://prntscr.com/lix19f

I have tried the solutions here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-7-backup-fails-with-0x81000015/e2b0d799-d99f-4394-9a6a-8ff5d8cd0d39

However still no luck.

I have also removed Winzip and Peazip from my machine, as per: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/win7/2011/03/07/error-0x81000015-appears-when-you-back-up-files-in-windows-7/

Can you advise what the next step is so I can resolve the issue?

Windows Server Backup Error: "Volume(s) OS have and unsupported files system and cannot be backed up."

I am wondering if anyone else has seen the below error message? If so how do I correct it, I don't want to have to purchase a 3rd party backup software package to backup the entire server if possible....

Below is the hard drive formats...not sure why OS partition is Fat32..I did not load the OS on this server.

Below is the error I get when trying to run any backups using the windows server backup configuration wizard?

Any ideas on how to correct this without a reinstallation would be great :)

Error Restore : Storage Location doest not match the shadow copy's original Volume

Hello,

I've captured from a Windows server 2016 my partition C:\ & D:\ on F:\ with this command line : "wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:F: -Include:C:,D: -allCritical -vssfull -quiet"

And after I've copied the folder WindowsImageBackup from F:\ to an external hard drive G:\

I try to restore my server from the Hard drive and I have this message :

Do you know the best practice to skip this error message ?

{guid}{guid} files in System Volume Information fill C: completely on 2012 R2 - seem created by Windows Server Backup

Hi,

we're having an issue at a customer where the C: drive will fill up over the course of a day or 5 (fluctuates).

It's a 2012 R2 server with 4 VM's (Hyper-V) on it. 2 of the VM's are linux (ubuntu 18.04 to be precise). The back-ups have worked w/o issues for about a year, but recently C: has filled up to the point where it breaks 4 times now. Every time there's a bunch of {guid}{guid} files in System Volume Information. Last time it filled up entirely there were 650GB worth of them...

Can't find much on why they aren't removed automatically, would presume they should be removed automatically at least.

Can get around them by deleting them with diskshadow (vssadmin doesn't allow to remove them), but looking for something that makes more sense than scripting/scheduling that. Backup shouldn't fill up the drive to the point where things break.

Backups themselves go to external HDD (USB) btw. The D: drive doesn't fill up. D: is a SSD, some vhd(x) files of the VM's are on D: for performance. In fact I've never seen the size of System Volume Information on that drive pass 1MB.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Presume it's related to some windowsupdate installed 1,5-2 months ago.

We only back-up the Hyper-V part by the way. Shadow copies aren't enabled and from what I understand servers don't support system restore points.

Filter Manager failed to attach to volume \Device\HarddiskVolume58. This volume will be unavailable for filtering until a reboot.  The final status was 0xc03a001c.
The error appears every time you back up. OS is the Windows Server 2016 standard. Can you tell me why these errors arise and how do I remove them? I note that this is a completely clean system.

Whoami /groups does not show domain groups

Hi there,

We have a problem with 1 of our domains, we want to install our backup tool from Acronis with Exchange application. Herefore we need to login as domain admin. This shows us the following error:

Cannot collect the metadata of Microsoft Exchange Server

The specified user does not have enough rights to create an application-aware backup.
TROUBLESHOOTPlease specify the credentials of a user who is a member of the 'Organization Management' role group or disable the application-aware backup of Microsoft Exchange Server.

We contacted Acronis, they told us; the problem is using the command: WHOAMI /GROUPS does not show any domain groups.. This is why Acronis software thinks our domain admin is not member of the organization management.

Somehow this does not work on any of the servers in this domain. We have more domains where this command DOES show domain groups.. We can't find anything different in the domain.

Schedule Backup as administrator error "You must be a member of the local Administrators or Backup Operators groups to schedule a backup."

Logged in as administrator
Going through Administrative Tools -> Windows Server Backup -> Backup Schedule
Setting up a new remote backup on a different server (requiring different login credentials to save to that location if it matters)

Everything goes through until I hit Finish on the Confirmation page, then after a few moments it gives me this:

Error:
"You must be a member of the local Administrators or Backup Operators groups to schedule a backup."

It does let me run the Backup Once through Windows Server Backup to the same location, but not through Backup Schedule.

Hi

I am running a script to map a cluster shared volume to a server and take backup of that volume. But each time volume is mapped i am getting a different volume GUID for access path addition. This is creating a problem in mounting the data to a folder form which i am planning to do a Netvault file system backup. I would like to hear out some sggestion for this.

Thanks in advance

I've got an issue and don't know how to solve

1- I had a Hyper V installed on windows server 2012 r2
2- I've installed and configured file server and configured windows server
3- I've configured backups by windows server backup to take backup from the needed files on a VHD disk
4- Hyper V server went down and I couldn't find all the files and folders on the virtual disks after attaching the old virtual disks
5- I was able to attach the backup VHD partition to restore the backup as pint no# 3
6- after mounting the VHD the partition say it's unallocated and need to be formatted

So please could someone help me with this issue :(

The backup failed. The RPC server is unavailable (0x800706BA)

After the Windows 10 version 1803 upgrade on April 30, 2018, my System Image Backup keeps failing withe two messages. "The backup failed" "The RPC server is unavailable (0x800706BA)".

Note that the System Image Backup worked before the upgrade. The upgrade completed OK and I have not found any other issues.

I checked that =1= The RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service in Services is active and running and =2= the DCOM (Distributed COM) is enabled. There used to be a SYSTEM disk when I did the defrag, the defrag does not show the SYSTEM disk in version 1803.

Is it a bug, or is there a fix or should I try the Image Recovery (that might fail as well).
